Treasure Island (2011-2013)

“A magical theatrical experience for the whole family.” – Sunshine Coast Daily

Treasure Island

Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island has enchanted readers, young and old, for a very long time, and has been celebrated on stage and screen in many versions. This two-hander adaptation, in true Matrix style, demands enormous imaginative commitment and energy from the performers, brilliantly supplied in this first co-production, with Queensland Theatre Company, by Joss McWilliam and Thomas Larkin. A vibrant soundscape from Phil Slade and an intricate set by Josh McIntosh, collapsing neatly down to a portable transit-van flat-pack, added colour and surprise to a highly theatrical piece, which retained the spirit of the original text and took it out to audiences across  Australia. Pirates, a teenage hero, a parrot, treasure and spectacular sword fights were the tried and tested ingredients, given a fresh twist in this production, for a rambunctious and popular hour in the theatre.
